THE ECURIE ECOSSE XF CONVERSION

The new Jaguar XF is undeniably a great car – enhancing it further requires a lot of care, attention to detail and a very high standard of equipment.

Our conversion - the ECURIE ECOSSE XF - appears purposeful, yet understated. Careful tuning of engine, brakes and suspension, add to the already impressive specification. Subtle interior changes ensure that you know you’re travelling in something special.

Our initial project – as detailed below - is based on the 2.7litre twin-turbo diesel version of the saloon car. We also now cover the 3.0litre diesel version - contact us for further details >>>

We have a high-performance version of the SV8 in development, and as variants of the body-style are released e.g. coupe and hopefully an estate – we will adapt our ECURIE ECOSSE conversion accordingly.

> WHEELS & TYRES

The 1956 & 57 Le Mans races were won by ECURIE ECOSSE on Dunlop tyres – that makes our choice of tyres straightforward – 255/35Z20XL Dunlop SPMAXX(J) on the front, and 285/30Z20XL Dunlop SPMAXX(J) on the rear. This balance of sizes maintains comfort, and ensures no added under-steer or over-steer. We inflate the tyres with nitrogen to minimise pressure changes with temperature fluctuation.

In 1956, the wheels were Dunlop steel wheels with small holes carefully elongated on the rim to cool the brakes.

In 2008, we are using aerospace grade 6061-T6 forged aluminium, with stainless fasteners on an elegant, deep-lip two piece rim. The classical I-beam spoke design with hidden hardware, adds refinement and performance, whilst concealing the two-piece construction.

The finish of the forged centre is like no other wheel. A self-coloured badge - uniquely engraved in aluminium, compliments the design.

Stronger and lighter than the original equipment wheels, you can feel the difference in steering and handling – these are quite simply, the best engineered wheels in the World.

 

> EXHAUSTS

The standard systems do look great. Our exclusively tailored systems look even better. Four 90mm tail-pipes in a twin-duplex layout, mandrel bends and constructed in 304 aircraft grade stainless steel, we have again saved even more weight, and achieved a classic look with only a purr of a sound difference.  There is an expected ‘thrum’ as the car accelerates, but no intrusive noise.

The reduced back-pressure allows the turbos to spool-up faster and exhaust gases to disperse more quickly. All O.E. particulate filters and complex lambda sensors are retained to ensure correct emission control.




> BRAKING

The D-type Jaguars of the late fifties played an enormous role in the development of the disc-brake technology that we now take for granted. Races were won and lost as brakes played an increasingly important role in vehicle performance.

Today, we change compounds and materials to achieve large percentage gains in braking performance and safety. The exclusive materials we use are also an environmental improvement and emit hardly any brake dust on the wheels.



 

> ENGINE

Chief engineer of the day was one Wilkie Wilkinson. He would spin (probably fast) in his grave were he to watch us tuning cars today.

He would have had an ear to a tube, listening intently to triple twin-choke Webers – waiting for a cough or a splutter, adding a quarter turn, changing an idle jet, a main jet, or a float here and there.

Today, we offer three engine tuning levels, for three good reasons.

First option, we could do nothing! You could enjoy the performance that the manufacturer has carefully derived - our suspension, braking and exhaust tuning will be enough of an improvement for some driving styles.

Second option, we can add a piggy-back ECU module that finely modifies fuel delivery and timing. As an efficiency enhancement, this improves fuel economy, and depending on driving style, will produce better MPG, whilst increasing brake horsepower from 207 to around 237. Torque is increased, and mid-range response is greatly enhanced.

The third option is ECURIE ECOSSE exclusive ECU re-mapping software, downloaded through the car’s OBD diagnostic port. Producing approximately 258bhp, the re-mapping adds an extra smoothness of power delivery, together with efficiency and MPG gain (around 6–9%), and further enhances the enormous torque of the Jaguar’s twin-turbo engine.


 

> SUSPENSION

The standard Jaguar XF is a very carefully balanced, quiet riding car.  We have developed a suspension set-up that allows a lower ride-height and centre of gravity, together with stability in handling, without losing any comfort. The product configuration and geometry set-up is exclusive to ECURIE ECOSSE-XF, has been extensively road-tested and is TUV approved.


 

> EXTERIOR

The XF design was created by Ian Callum – yet another great Scot. It is difficult to imagine any styling modifications that could enhance the lines of the XF, or improve it’s looks or efficiency. Mr Callum has got the XF styling right, so we respectfully leave it alone – no aerodynamic aids.

We have, however, carefully colour-coded some parts – the chrome grille is changed to piano black to match the B-pillars, the lower grille sections are modestly body-coloured, as is the rear valance.

Small ECURIE ECOSSE badges complete the subtle detailing.


 

> INTERIOR

The traditional Jaguar interior has translated beautifully into the contemporary XF.

All we suggest is to add a twist - firstly by re-finishing the wood sections in piano black. The soft-blue interior lighting reflects in a totally different way on the black, and whilst not over-clinical, is definitely ‘sharp’. To compliment the gorgeous lighting, we have added high-tech white l.e.d. puddle-lights on the base of the doors – very practical (especially in Scotland) and very stylish.

How could we resist re-trimming in fine Scottish leather? We have taken the opportunity to incorporate a more traditional vertical pleating, and just an (ECURIE ECOSSE) element of white in the stitching.
